Gunsmith of Russian shooting team demonstrated a couple of photos. It is Matchguns MG5 free pistol. Custom barrel, custom front sight mount and custom grip. Other details are not known to me.
As author says: «now the pistol is ready for achievements».
One thing I always have been wondering about is that Russian grip makers always use the "thump opening", also when making grips for western pistols like Morini, and in this case Matchgun. What is the purpose of that? Manage the recoil correct and steadyness I guess. But in exactly what why does this "opening" support this?
Looks a bit like the barrel of an old hammerli model, no? And I very much like the grip(glove)
ReplyDeleteIt is neither a Hämmerli barrel, nor Lothar Walther barrel, nor any russian barrel.
ReplyDeletei wonder what the russian gunsmith thinks of morini cm84e
ReplyDeleteSome of them think that barrel is too tight (about 5.35-5.40mm).
ReplyDeleteLast what I have heard Reppich finally accepted critics and new CM84 barrels must be about 5.50mm.
For example all TOZ-35(M) barrels are different - from 5.30 (most of them TOZ-35) to 5.50 (TOZ-35M).

Grips with covered thumb finger?
ReplyDeleteIt is historically so (traditional look & feel) ... and it does not affect anything.
